Reviews for The Magic Wok
Review highlights
Based on 84 reviewsThe Magic Wok in Damansara Jaya is generally praised for its comfortable, uncrowded ambiance and attentive service, making it suitable for both family gatherings and intimate dining. The restaurant’s signature dishes, especially the pork ribs, receive consistent commendations for flavor and portion size. Guests appreciate the variety of traditional Chinese offerings and the presence of a small wine bar. However, some patrons note slower food delivery during quieter hours and find certain prices, particularly for smaller portions like fish fillets and rice, to be on the higher side. A few unique dishes, such as the truffle yee mee, have received mixed feedback. Overall, the restaurant is regarded as a reliable choice for flavorful Chinese cuisine in a pleasant setting.
Great place if you want privacy place to dine in. This is our all time favourite restaurant. They served good food and there is also a small wine bar too. The only thing is the fish fillet 2 portion price is too little and expensive. Rice is too small bowl too.
Chose this venue for a catch-up dinner with my in-laws and our families, totaling 9 of us, 4 children and 5 adults. Comfortable dining area. Uncrowded, pleasantly decorated, plated tables. Hard-working attendant. Food in the menu is priced for 2-3 people. We treated ourselves to salted egg fish skin, salt & pepper squid, chicken & brinjal claypot, belacan kangkung, pork ribs, fried pork intestines. Quality pearl rice served in smallish bowls. We added 5 more to polish off the food. It was really good! Special mention of the ribs - good marinade and thick cuts of meat. The s&p squid was also popular with the kids.
Had early dinner on a Saturday, we were the first table. Staff responded to us promptly. Food took quite long to arrive although we were the only table. We had to request several times for our claypot dish. All dishes were delicious with good serving size. Family’s favourite was the Magic Wok Pork Ribs, well-seasoned and crispy on the outside.
Came across this place a long time ago in my search for truffle yee mee. Decided to finally check it out. Place was a bit eerriely quiet on a weekday evening. Truffle yee mee tasted a bit funky, in a bad way. Not sure how to describe it, like the "rawness" of the shimeji mushroom. That being said, the pork ribs were pretty good, and their chilli dip was also very appetising.
Had a good dinner here. Was told to enter the place via a pub which was next door of this restaurant. Their wait staff John was friendly and courteous. Food arrived rather fast. Had the Magic Wok pork ribs which were very good. John was honest with portions and not even once did he ask us to order more dishes. Also ordered: salt & pepper squid tentacles, salted fish pork belly brinjal claypot and nam yue vegetarian claypot. Everything was tasty and we enjoyed our meal. It was rather quiet for a Friday night but we will be back again.
Found this place while we were looking for another restaurant. Parking can be found around the frontage or off street. The dishes we ordered were very tasty. Unique take on fried chicken and fried ginger sliced, crispy and tender. The house special truffles Yee Mee were good, a bit oily. The fried large intestines were really good. Crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. We had string beans veg. And it was average. Rice bowl was a little small considering they charge $3 per. All overall was good.
Shrunk from 2 shop lots to one, and front door not working. The braised pork shoulder was quite tasty as was the tofu Tau Kan and the braised potato with minced pork. Prices are on the high side, and perhaps that's why this place was almost deserted except for our table of 3 and another table of 3. Hope it can survive. Free street parking available.
